Description
This gorgeous flight formation of a flock of American Avocets (Recurvirostra americana) shows their beautiful markings at the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center in Port Aransas, Texas.
The American Avocet is a large wader in the avocet and stilt family. It spends much of its time foraging in shallow water or on mud flats, often sweeping its bill from side to side in water as it seeks its crustacean and insect prey.
