I love so much of your work. This piece; with its leading lines, textures and emptiness is quite moving. I wish I knew about it when I was in the area.

Jurgen Lorenzen replied:

Robert, thank you for your visit and wonderful comment!

There is no part of me that can relate or understand such cruelty. DeGaulle was correct to preserve such a vivid reminder of what humans can do to each other. Poignant panorama! L/F

Jurgen Lorenzen replied:

You are right, William! The only residents of Oradour Sur Glane that survived this massacre were the ones working in Limoges that day. Thank you for the comment!

Artist's Description

View of the main street in the village of Oradour Sur Glane in Haute-Vienne, France, where retreating German SS troops massacred over 600 innocent men, women and children. The scenic and once prosperous village had a tram than carried residents to work in the nearby city of Limoges. French President Charles DeGaulle ordered the site preserved as a memorial to man's inhumanity to man.

About Jurgen Lorenzen

Jurgen Lorenzen

Photography, to me, involves seeing the light and capturing the moment: the colorful illumination in the sky just before sunrise; bright sunlight dancing on the bubbling current, the glint in the eye of a mockingbird, soft reflected light caressing the face of a child, the dynamic reflection of the setting sun on the beach.
