Description
This beautiful Gray Fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) is spending the day sleeping in a tree at Brookgreen Gardens near Huntington Beach State Park, South Carolina.
The gray fox is is an omnivorous mammal, widespread throughout North and Central America and slightly smaller than the red fox. It has coarse, salt and pepper gray hair and black markings on the head, nose, and muzzle.
It is the only member of the dog family that can climb trees, sometimes called the “tree fox” or the “cat fox”.
They are primarily nocturnal, but may forage during the day.
