Description
The Bat Falcon (Falco rufigularis). I had the good fortune to see and photograph this beautiful bird at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge near Alamo, Texas. This is the first sighting of this bird in the US - first seen in December 2021, it is still residing in this refuge.
The Bat Falcon is a widespread small falcon of forest and clearings in the Neotropics. It is a resident breeder in tropical Mexico, Central and South America, and Trinidad.
