This Eastern Meadowlark (Sturnella magna) was singing away sitting on a wire near Galveston, Tx. I love the yellow chest of the bird against the complementary blue of the sky.
A familiar bird, known by the black "V" on its chest when it sings from a fencepost, or by the flash of white tail feathers when it flushes from the grass. The clear whistled song of the Eastern Meadowlark can be heard in spring not only in the East but also in desert grasslands of the Southwest.
Photography, to me, involves seeing the light and capturing the moment: the colorful illumination in the sky just before sunrise; bright sunlight dancing on the bubbling current, the glint in the eye of a mockingbird, soft reflected light caressing the face of a child, the dynamic reflection of the setting sun on the beach. As a photographer, I use my camera to share with others my vision of the world. I have been making photographs for as long as I can remember.
