Description
The husband of Guillermina Aguilar makes clay sculptures in their studio in Ocotlan, Oaxaca, Mexico.
The four famous Aguilar sisters were born to Isaura Alcantara Diaz, the innovator of colorful decorative indigenous figures of everyday life. These figures imaginatively capture the daily activities and passions of pueblo life.
The four sisters, Guillermina, Josefina, Irene and Concepcion (and son Jesus) carry on this famous tradition. Each has adapted their own unique style within this genre. The hand formed and painted clay work of the Aguilar family, which now includes children and grandchildren of Isaura, is unmistakably charming. The entire family lives in Ocotlan de Morelos, just outside of the city of Oaxaca.
