Description
This is the ruin of a castle that was built in the 14th-17th century to house the vidame (viceroy or lord) of this northern French region of La Ferte-Arnault in the central Loire valley. It's owner was beheaded during the French revolution.
The castle of La Ferte-Vidame, built in the 14th century, rebuilt in the 17th century and destroyed during the French Revolution, is located in the village namesake in the department of Eure-et-Loir in the region Center-Val de Loire .
All that remains is an impressive ruin as well as the outbuildings ("small castle").
The castle has been classified as a historical monument since the February 24, 1976 for the buildings (the ruins of the castle, the facades and roofs of the outbuildings, the castle's gate of honor), as well as a classification on February 26, 1991 for its park and its pavilions.
