Description
I chose to photograph these very intriguing church ruins in monochrome to draw attention to the old brick work.
The church was built to completion in 1753, and remained in service until 1779, when it was burned at the order of a British general during the American Revolutionary War.
Parishioners rebuilt the church, and it was active again until 1865, when it was again burned during the American Civil War.
This time, the church's destruction was by the Union Army at the order of Gen. William T. Sherman during his infamous march through Georgia and the Carolinas. The church was never rebuilt afterward.
The Old Sheldon Church ruins, which lie in northern Beaufort County near the town of Yemassee, South Carolina, were added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Great job on this one. I love this site. I understand that there's a chain link fence around it now. So sad.
